Evidence-based practice

Evidence-based practice is becoming embedded across a range of professions (particularly within the field of healthcare). The concept is gaining strength in the library and information profession - see for example the open-access journal Evidence Based Library and Information Practice.

The Australian Library and Information Association supports the use of research to inform best practice in the information profession.

The Centre for Information Studies plays a role in this mission by providing a conduit to enable research to filter through into professional practice. One of the bestsellers from the CIS catalogue is Kirsty Williamson's Research Methods for Students, Academics and Professionals.

CIS also facilitates the open access publishing of research from Australia's information professionals by hosting freely available content from a range of high-profile events such as RAILS (Research Applications in Information and Library Studies). Please do explore CIS supported open access e-publications.
